A clearer path to support for families experiencing loss

I rebuilt ParentCare.ca from a fragmented WordPress site into a more accessible, organized resource for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss, including a searchable library of 700+ items.

A shared structure for support

The site had become hard to navigate and hard to maintain. I led the redesign and rebuilt it end to end — stakeholder discovery and design sprints, high-fidelity Figma wireframes, a custom WordPress theme, and the publishing tools staff use day to day. The library, events and contact paths now share one structure, and the organisation can keep them current on its own.

What it does

  • Searchable library. A catalogue of 700+ resources with instant search and filtering.
  • Events and gatherings. Upcoming gatherings can be filtered by type, with dates, locations and contact details together.
  • Staff-owned publishing. A custom WordPress theme gives the organisation tools to keep its resources current.
  • Connected content. Custom post types, metadata and routing let one entry appear in every section it belongs to.
  • Faster delivery. Critical CSS and conditional assets reduced the reported page-load time from roughly 800 ms to 200 ms.

I built the site’s behaviour into a custom WordPress theme rather than leaning on paid plugins. Custom post types, metadata and routing give the content its structure, so one entry can appear in every section it belongs to, and the search and filtering run instantly without reloading the page.

I also rebuilt how the site is delivered: critical CSS and conditional assets brought the page-load time from roughly 800 ms to 200 ms. A zero-downtime migration moved it to a new server, with SSL and build integrity validated through local DNS overrides before the live domain switched.
